An official written document on what needs to be taught in the classroom?

Hidden Curriculum?
Everything that happens in a classroom
Your response, or lack of response can have a huge impact on your students The importance of the hidden curriculum became clear to me after reading the stories from the New Teacher Book, specifically in the story What can I do when a student makes a racist or sexist remark?

Curriculum as Equity, Social Justice and Diversity

Curriculum as a source of power Challenging these ideas by incorporating social justice and teaching towards antioppression Kumashiros Commonsense

Curriculum as on Online Community

Increase use of technology and changing nature of learning
Can be positive

Can be negative
As a teacher, I will be aware of these aspects and guide students in a positive direction while taking advantage of the amazing things we can do with an online community of learners

Curriculum of Self
The curriculum is never simply a neutral assemblage of knowledge, somehow appearing in the texts and classrooms of a nation. It s always part of a selective tradition, someones selection, some groups vision of legitimate knowledge. Michael Apple
Can hinder or foster ones self esteem Use my experience with Audrey to create positive experiences with my students

Key points for Kumashiro:

-transform schools into spaces where all students will be safe, addressed and affirmed -create spaces within schools where students can go for help, support, advocacy, and resources -change the knowledge that all students have about people who are labeled different

-broaden students understanding of differences and different groups of people by integrating into the curriculum a richer diversity of experiences, perspectives and materials
