REASONING BY DEDUCTION AND INDUCTION

Reasoning by induction is a process of making a

generalisation based on a specific cases E.g: 2 x 2 = 2+ = 25 24 x 2= 24+3 = 27 27 x 2 = 27+2 = 29

Specific cases

2 x 2b = 2a+b } General conclusion In the above example, a general conclusion 2 x 2b = 2a+b has been made based on specific cases. The generalisation is made using inductive reasoning. The general conclusion has been made based on several cases. Hence, the conclusion made by inductive reasoning is not necessarily definite.
