OBrien 1 Christine OBrien Wendy Grosskopf WRT 201 November 13, 2013 In todays society, is extremely difficult to get

a job after graduating college due to the economy and the competitive pool of applicants that every graduate is up against. As a college student, I have become increasingly aware of how important it is to get the most out of my education at URI so I can be successful after I graduate. I feel the best decision I made to ensure that I am a desirable candidate for whatever job I apply for after graduation was adding Writing and Rhetoric as my second major. It is essential in the professional work force that one knows how to write effectively and with so many technological innovations in todays world, many people do not know how. Writing and Rhetoric as a minor is beneficial to any field of study and will ultimately increase the likelihood of a student finding a job after graduation. My target audience for this proposal is the student body at URI but particularly, the students in my Writing Persuasive and Argumentative Texts (Writing 201) class. Since these students are already enrolled in a writing class, they have witnessed how writing is essential to their education and I will urge them to continue studying it. By conducting a face-to-face presentation to the students in my class, I will explain to them the benefits of adding Writing and Rhetoric as at least a minor and how easily executable it is. I believe I can use ethos effectively in my proposal because I am a Writing and Rhetoric major who works for the writing department. I will also conduct a survey with the Department Chair, Nedra Reynolds to enhance my credibility. Logos will also be utilized in my proposal because I will exhibit how it is logistically a wise decision to study Writing and Rhetoric. I will do this by showing students

OBrien 2 how a degree in Writing and Rhetoric would help them with their prospective career. Although ethos would not be a conventional tool to use in this proposal, I will incorporate it in my presentation when showing the class how much I love my major and discussing how discouraging it can be when one does not find a job after graduation. I feel a face-to-face presentation of my proposal will be most effective in showing my classmates how helpful Writing and Rhetoric will be in their careers and how executable it actually is.
