Teacher Independent Writing Provides explicit teaching through: Writers talk Mini-lesson Conferring Sharing Explore what writers or illustrators do through studying authors or illustrators Participate in large group mini-lesson and apply new knowledge to individual writing Select topic Write during designated time Confer with teacher and other writers Share writing to solicit feedback Use feedback in revision and editing Use references and resources Publish writing as appropriate

Guided Writing Provides explicit teaching through: Lesson focused on specific needs of individual Conferring with individuals within a small group Participate in group lesson Apply new knowledge to individual pieces of writing Select topic Write during designated time Confer with teacher and other writers Share writing to solicit feedback Use feedback in revision and editing Use references and resources Publish writing as appropriate
