The early childhood fact sheet will discuss the different milestones; physically, cognitively, and language, that

takes place during the development of children in the early childhood stage. Also it discusses atypical development and the signs to look for along with strategies that families can use to help with the learning and development process.

Typical physical developmental milestones


Walks down stairs, alternating feet Gallops and skips

Typical language developmental milestones


Continued growth in phonetic inventory, along with vocabulary and syntax. Stuttering is often first noticed at about this age. Almost all vowels are mastered by this age, along with a number of consonants (KENT, R.(2005).

Typical cognitive developmental milestones


3 to 4 years children turn to desires, emotions, and perceptions as the explanatory constructs for people's actions. By age 5 children have the critical insight that another person could hold a belief that is false, that is different from their own, and that will result in a particular action (CALLAGHAN, T.(2005).

A sign that may signal atypical development


Cannot grasp a crayon between thumb and fingers thats a sign that there could be a problem with fine motor skills. Still clings or cries when parents leave him

A strategy that families can use to influence their childs learning and development. Providing a loving, safe, and nurturing environment Language stimulation

A social factor that influences the early childhood stage The dynamics of families have changed, the roles have changed as well as family overall with children being in step-families or raised by grandparents.

A culture factor in early childhood stage Grandparents in some cultures are taking on the roles as the (parent) or providing childcare instead of being the traditional grandparent.
