Key concepts include the distinguishing characteristics of kingdoms of organisms and the distinguishing characteristics of major animal phyla and plant divisions Students will be able to distinguish between the different kingdoms and phyla and the characteristic associated with them so students can group organisms into their classifications Students will understand the process of forming classifications and how scientists from all over the world work together to form them by developing their own classification with students from another part of the world

I will present lecture on material on kingdoms and phyla o Students will participate by researching certain information to keep them active Students will be paired up with another classmate + another pair of students from the science class in London Given google doc link containing a list of organisms o Picture + organism info Students will work with their group via google doc to come up

with their own classifications for the organisms Students will list characteristics responsible for the kingdoms and phyla they choose Discussion will take place next class Evaluating the information researched for lecture Evaluating reasoning for classifications they devised in group Discussion at beginning of next class
