There were many different producers of Flintlock muskets, and each added their own identifiable style to the musket. Mass numbers of these muskets where created by the blacksmiths for use. Despite the mass production of muskets the quality remained (Williams). The length of barrels, shape of the wooden handles, and even the flintlock mechanism all remain similar between different muskets. Despite the crude manufacturing process used to create the Flintlock muskets from the American Revolutionary War era, these weapons maintained a surprising amount of precision between different muskets. Ten weapons have been examined in national museums and demonstrate remarkable consistency between the groups of weapons manufactured and supplied by different makers and indicate the precision achieved to pattern during this period of high volume supply by a large number of gunmakers(Williams). This statement summarizes research done by David William to examine the standardization in building these muskets. Work Cited Williams, David.
