Alabama 6th Congressional District Poll Results

Mathis 16%, DeMarco 15%, Brooke 10% (44% undecided) (likely voters)
POLLING METHODOLOGY
Our philosophy about which population to use depends on the election, but we are generally comfortable with a likely voter model (as opposed to a registered voter model) for most elections. For this poll, we chose a sample of those who have participated in recent Republican primaries/runoffs in the 6th Congressional District of Alabama for an automated poll. There were 445 completed responses to the poll. The survey was conducted April 15 and 17. The margin of error, with a 95% confidence interval, was 4.6%. The gender of the respondents was 56-44% female/male, and the geographic breakdown of the respondents was as follows: 58% from Birmingham (Jefferson County precincts in the 6th Congressional District), 32% from the suburban counties of Blount and Shelby, and 9% from the rural counties of Bibb, Chilton, and Coosa.

POLL SUMMARY
With less than two months to go before the June 3 primary election for this open seat, the race for the Republican nomination for the open 6th Congressional District seat has three front runners: Dr. Chad Mathis (who leads with 16%), state representative /attorney Paul DeMarco (who is a close second with 15%), and attorney/executive Will Brooke (who is in third place with 10%). If you were to examine the strength of support among the front runners, heres what we found: those who are very certain of their support favor Dr. Chad Mathis 30-29% over DeMarco, while 19% supported Brooke. Those who are somewhat certain of their support favor Dr. Mathis 38-20% over DeMarco, while 11% support Brooke. Those who may still change their mind favor DeMarco 26%, while Brooke is favored by 22%, and 14% favor Dr. Mathis. In summary, Dr. Mathis is at this time in a strong position in the Republican primary contest, and he is likely to be joined by either Rep. DeMarco or Will Brooke in the runoff.
