Journal 1 1. The most knowledgeable person in my family about our past history is my Uncle John.

Though he is extremely busy, he has the most contact with older relatives who in return tell him about our familys history. Also, he has tracked the graveyards where a lot of our relatives have been buried. Questions: Journal 2 Our family does not really have a true ethnic meal. On my Moms side of the family, the Czechs, love serving huge meals. So, every meal when I go to see relatives, the meal we have is giant. On my dads side of the family, every holiday meal has to have a pie included, which he or someone else makes from scratch. Other than the normal ingredients for whatever pie they are making, there is no special ingredient. I think the last thing is fish on Fridays during Lent. Where were my great grandparents (on my grandmothers side) from? Where did the last name my mothers maiden name Tomko come from? In what ways did the family migrate over?

Journal 3 I think a dwelling place or retreat of an animal is the most accurate description of my unusual home. It was only home for a week. Nevertheless, for a week after my family moved to North Carolina, we called a hotel room home. The hotel room was supposed to be nice. Like, hot tub in the bathroom, tow king beds nice. When we arrived, it looked like the hotel used it as a petting zoo.

There was grass all over the floor and fur in the bathroom. I got the idea large dogs were in there. Room service had it clean up by the third day, but it was miserable three days, and smelt bad the entire stay. Journal 4 The happiest moment of my life have been the few which I have passed at home in the bosom of my family by Thomas Jefferson has the most to do with my life. It appeals to me because I live somewhat farther out than some students at UNCC. The feeling actually being able to go home and see family is nice. Its something I often look forward to. When I get the chance to go home, it usually can end up being the happiest of moments. Journal 5 I remember when I was 12, going up to Vermont to see my grandparents. It was Christmas, so we went to have Christmas dinner. Long story short, my grandpa started to talk about where the Olmstead name originated. I remember he described how the Olmsteads started from Anglo-Saxon warriors. Also, to that over the years, one Olmsted was forced to change his name to Olmstead. If I remember right, it had something to do with immigration. Nonetheless, immigration in America wrote down the name with an a. So, thats where the name originated from in a literal sense. After this ten-minute rant from my grandpa, we proceeded to actually eat dinner. Journal 6

I cant remember if it was part of the Super Bowl, but I really liked the new Apple commercial. It goes into an entire monologue about how humanity has the ability to etch its place in history. Mean while, they show various uses of the iPad, such as using for science experiments underwater, in sports, to capture scenic waterfalls, and so on. Basically, it was almost inspirational video in the sense of creativity. The commercial is great, but its too bad I could never afford all the Apple Products I want. Journal 7 The documentation style I know most about is MLA. Throughout high school, the only documentation style I had to use was MLA, so I quickly became familiar with citing sources. Also, when I was a tutor at my high schools writing lab, I helped younger students cite carious articles. I am familiar with Chicago style now; especially because, in LBST classes, Chicago Style is very important. To make sure I cite my sources correctly, I use Purdue Owl. It is important to have a works cited page. In my case, I tend to leave out the publishers. Journal 8 Id have to say both sentences represent me. I try to blend using direct quotes and paraphrasing. Direct quotes help show facts in a more methodical way. Nevertheless, I also like to look like someone who knows what they are talking about. Paraphrasing allows me to put information in to my own words. This shows Im not blindly throwing quotes around, but inquiring on what the sources context means. Journal 9

Zora Neale Hurston quote hits home the most. A major factor in a researchers success or failure is his level of curiosity. Hurtson understands this and adds, Research is formalized curiosity. It can be understood that a person HAS to be interested n a topic to produce quality work. Journal 10 Most of the papers I wrote in high school were all argumentative. Every time, our instructor would tell us to take some side, and argue a valid point from it. Nevertheless, college has been different. In my LBST 2200 class, all of the papers we wrote out of class were inquiries. For instance we had a project called the inquiry project. Then, we used a vast database of academic journals to complete the project. In class, at least in my LBST, we would have to write arguments. Argumentative writing was only for exams. Journal 11 List of things left to do: Reflection Letter Type up daily writings (thats ironic). Find all WPs Upload all projects and find resources. Look up 6 more sources

Journal 12 I think procrastination is a double-edged sword. Of course, I dont procrastinate on everything. I would go insane. However, I have produced some of my best work under the last second pressure I made my actable to. Procrastination

can hurt. Falling asleep on the job or careless errors did not trouble projects I have gotten done days in advance. Unlike a last minute struggle, starting early allows for my blood pressure to stay a little lower as well. Procrastination is not all bad though. Tensioned from immense stress, it is much easier to concentrate last minute. Wanting the project to be too good ends up being simply good enough. For perfectionists like myself, at least I like to say I am whether my grades reflect it or not, not having the time to perfect can save a lot of time and frustration, in the end. Procrastination is neither good nor bad, but at the same time is good and bad. Its a matter of preference and work style. Journal 13 A topic needs obscure data, facts, and information. When thinking about any great presentation, no one thinks of a presentation where nothing new or interesting is presented. The obscure keeps it interesting. For my personal project, it is pretty obvious a lot of people did not approve of prohibition. Mainstream media finds ways to bring up the mafia or illegal stills all the time. Obscure fact about the time period though that give a fresh new perspective will keep the presentation interesting. Journal 14 You cant wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club, best describes my writing style and process. For me, writing can be a struggle. Not because I am bad at writing, but because motivation for the prompt does not come easy. Usually, I have to really find inspiration, which can come from trying to be

creative about my approach. This can include reading up on the topic a head of time or writing everything after I found all the quotes I would like to use.
