Mrs.

Angies Pre-K and Kindergarten Unit 4 Inquiry:

Who we are in Place and Time

About the Unit:

Unit Connections: Science: The Earth has patterns that show us that time is passing: day and night, seasons, and observing the sun, moon, and stars. Social Studies: We each have our own histories made up of different events leading to the present. Each region has its own folk stories and dances that tell their history and are a part of their culture. Math: We will use clocks and calendars to tell time and how it passes.

This will be an inquiry into our orientation in place and time; our own personal histories, homes and journeys, discoveries, explorations, and the migrations of human kind. We will look at the connectedness of individuals and civilizations and local global perspectives.

ESLR connections: We will show vitality through time as we look at our past and our future. We will show courage by sharing our own personal past with others and relating our own stories. We will show sensitivity and compassion towards the histories of others in our class and towards those of other cultures. We will show intelligence by demonstrating our understanding of time and how it passes.

Help at home: Talk about your familys history. Where did you come from? What are some of the folk tales from your culture? Talk about time with your child. Use a clock at home and talk about when you do certain things; use a calendar and talk about important dates. Read about the Solar System or folk literature from different countries and cultures.
