LaQuita Williams Comm Writing Young Black Female Adds Diversity.

Alexis Wilkinson is one of two Black females to be a part of the predominately white male staff as chief and editor of the Harvard Lampoon. The Harvard Lampoon is a comedy magazine that has five issues a year. It is also a feeder into shows like The Simpsons, Parks and Recreation, and late-night shows like Saturday Night Live, according to the Lampoons website. Diversity is very important in the workplace. It shows culture, it's more than race. It is diversity, its where youre from, different experiences and other cultural ideas, said Serena Royal, Tubman/Towers Residential Director and graduate of Delaware State. Wilkinsons demeanor is one of the reasons of her successes. By carrying herself positively, act the part and play the part. People wouldn't know whether you are uncomfortable or notDiversity brings in perspective, said Jermaine Harris, sophomore and movement science major at Delaware State University. It is amazing. This shows that Obamas implements of women being equal to men mean same pay same job. It puts that initiative on the rise. Putting others on a high mark to follow, its amazing. Instead of people saying I wanna be like Mike [Jordan] theyre going to say, I want to be like Alexis, said Royal.

This shows African Americans have great leadership positions, although its comedy, you can shed light on other important matters, said Harris. As a woman, you were in a locker-room mentality and learned how to roll with punches. Alexis must be very well-liked and funny. Because it's never easy to break any barrier, said Maiya Williams, Lampoon's first black female staffer, according to Chicago Tribunes Christopher Borrelli. A teacher of mine in elementary school told me, People will tell you you're not good enough. Don't believe them, said Wilkinson.
