Daniela Camarda da Silveira Reading Class April 1, 2014 Summary According to the academic journal Fly Ash and

its Influence on Admixture Alitic Type Cement Concrete Permeability written by Mircea Rujanu and Bogdan Rujanu, (the) Fly Ash is a cementing material that influences on many characteristics of (the) concrete. Some of these influences are positive and some are negative. As benefits of using this admixture, the reduction of the use of water as well as the shrinkage and cracking were cited. Moreover, the concrete made with fly ash reaches a higher compressive strength over time and is more economical. As harm was highlighted the fact that the gain of compressive strength of concrete with fly ash occurs slowly over a long period of time, differently from the concrete produced without Fly Ash. Furthermore, the growth in the volume of capillary pores was also cited as a negative point. The article was based on tests made with concrete and some of the observations cited above were tested at the end of these tests and demonstrated in graphics. The purpose of these tests was to evaluate the interference of Fly Ash on concrete, mainly in relation to impermeability. The conclusion was that the concrete made with fly ash has its impermeability characteristic favored.
