Throughout this year, we will work together to develop a supportive learning community in order to explore literature and ideas through literacy, listening, collaboration. Here are a few things you will need to be successful this year! Materials: please bring these with you to class every day. Notebook or binder (your preference) but you must be able to hand in individual pages of this notebook. Pen or pencil Class texts Writers Handbook Positive attitude Rules and Expectations 1. Be Respectful: Respect individual opinions and backgrounds Treat others the way you want to be treated Take turns in discussions Take care of the room and materials Use appropriate language 2. Be Responsible Be in class and participate Come to class with materials each day Complete all assignments on time Arrange to make up work; I will not come find you to check in Talk to me about any issues or concerns you have with class and assignments 3. Follow the Basics Food and drink are allowed: clean up after yourself No hats Electronics (phones and music) may only be used during individual work time unless otherwise instructed. However, you are responsible for completing work and learning during this time; use devices responsibly!

Assignments/Due Dates: Assignments are due on the due date; if you are in the building that day, your paper is due. Late assignments will lose one letter grade per day. If you know you will be gone you must get your assignments before your absence. They are due on the day of your return. If you are absent you will have two days to make up your assignments. Grading: Please remember that grades are always available to view online. Check them frequently to make sure you have everything turned in. A: 100-90 B: 89-80 C: 79-70 D: 69-60 F: 59 and below Discipline: All discipline issues will be addressed with you, the student, first; it is time to take responsibility for your behavior and education. Parents will be contacted if the issue persists. My consequence system is as follows: 2 Warnings: the second warning will include a discussion of behavior Lunch detention with me School detention Next appropriate step: office referral, ISS, etc. Academic Honesty: We will be doing plenty of writing in this course. Plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in a 0 on that assignment. If you have questions or need help citing or rephrasing, please come see me! Likewise, cheating and copying will not be tolerated. The assignment will result in a 0 for one or both parties.
