QQC THE POWER OF PROTOCOLS

MOHAMMED KHIMANI
This is my first experience of reading a digital book. It has turned out as a wonderful experience though it was little stressful initially. I am looking forward to read more digital books. QUOTE: When protocols are used in teaching, the transparency they lend to interactions carries the same benefits to our studentsfor example, pressing everyone to speak and to listen, to diagnose and to speculate, and so on. They can also disturb privacy and certainty by interrupting the ordinary flow of conversation. Some of them force the raising of questions, the suspension of judgment, and the withholding of responseall of these useful to learning at certain times. Importantly, they may also help students gain metacognitive skill. COMMENT: This quote gives me great insight as an educator and helps me to reflect on my own teaching practice. As a physics teacher I always wonder how to develop the required skills. We say practice of more and more numericals will develop the critical thinking skill. But this is not working well. It is because we are still using conventional way of teaching. The teacher goes to the class, uses chalk and board method, gives no time to the students for thinking, finishes what s/he has planned for 45 minutes and feels satisfied. Students accept what is taught without questioning much, by heart the matter, appear for exam and wipes out everything from memory. In TGES we always try to implement new methodologies and strategies to make our children 21st century learner but because of instability, reluctance to go out of the comfort zone and inconsistency in our efforts, ultimately we return to the pavilion. The use of protocols may come to our rescue in such case. We can bring the change and still be in the comfort zone. Students will learn time-management. They will start building scientific temperament. Values and attitudes such as honesty, respect, and equality will be developed which are missing out through conventional way. I am looking forward to implement protocols in my classroom as soon as possible. QUESTION: Will I get the support from students? Will I be able to implement protocols successfully?
