I intend to observe the discourse community of Advanced Model United Nations. It is not only a club, but also, a class within the Political Science department. The participants of Model United Nations do research for an assigned country, prepare speeches, and particular types of text in order to prepare themselves to represent the assigned country in a conference that seeks to be a mock of the United Nations. I am an insider within this community. I have participated in this community for a year, and have been to multiple conferences. Even though I am an insider, I am as veteran as some, and therefore I can observe the dynamics with a neutral eye in order to obtain accurate observations. Through observing the class that meets Tuesdays and Thursday, I will obtain my observations. I will observe the class first on Tuesday March 25, 2014 at 3:30pm.
