Established Goals: The goal of this lesson is for students to be able to identify and categorize different levels of location

that can range from very general (United States of America) to very specific (Waldo Avenue, iverdale)! Essential Question: What is the spatial relationship bet"een your community and the country# Students will be able to: o Students "ill be able to construct and identify different types of maps, such as a sub"ay map, a road map, or a map of their community, and "or$ "ith these maps in order to pin point a location utilizing their $no"ledge of basic map s$ills o Students "ill be able to describe and analyze the spatial relationship bet"een their community, the five boroughs, the state, and the country! Students will understand that: %uring this lesson students "ill be able to conceptualize the area in "hich they live in comparison to the rest of the city, state, and country! Students will know that: After this lesson the students "ill $no" "hat a borough is and "here it is located! They "ill $no" that the five boroughs ma$e up &e" 'or$ (ity, the city is part of &e" 'or$ State, and &e" 'or$ State is part of the United States! Performance Task: The students) tas$ is to create a flip boo$ sho"ing each area of location! They "ill be given four circles "ith maps on them! They "ill have to use their $no"ledge of "or$ing "ith maps as "ell as the ne" locations they have learned, to correctly label each map! *nce the circles are correctly labeled and chec$ed by the teacher, the children "ill then be able to put the circles in correct order (community, borough, city, state, country) and tie them together "ith a ribbon! To complete the pro+ect they "ill color in the maps to be put on display! This activity "ill help the students understand the spatial relationship among these different locations! Other Evidence: The students) progress "ill also be assessed during this lesson but observing participation in the activities and discussion and class"or$! Students "ill be able to assess themselves based on a rubric!
