Location Report For my AS Level film studies project I have decided to write a location report.

I have decided to create my location report inspired by scenes from the Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan 2008) and Skyfall (Sam Mendes 2012). The scene in which I will be recreating based on the two film is that when both antagonists are been interrogated by the protagonist of the film. In this scene the attention is mainly focused on the antagonist exploring the characters ideals and reasons behind the crimes they have committed. I will be developing my portfolio by using the central themes of both films revenge and anarchy. Using my own antagonists as the main focus of my 2-minute piece I will recreate the themes and ideals of both villains using a split personality. I intent to create a 2-minute piece in the Thriller genre based upon my location report consisting of two images. Location 1

My first location will be the interior of an apartment in a block of flats. This shot will be a medium showing the antagonist preparing to rape his victim. As it is the opening shot it is important to establish a sense of surrounding and tension within the scene and the rest of the film. I will be using sound to create the tension within the scene. This will be done through a mix of ambient sounds and score music, the ambient sound used will create a realistic backdrop for this scene giving a more

natural and believable world within my scene. Then with the use of score music I will be able to create the tension needed for the thriller genre. The score music will be slow to build the tension within the scene like the score music used within the Dark Knight. The music was very intense although quietly playing the background created a suspense filled scene in which I will try to recreate within my own my opening scene. The lighting used within the scene will be low key to create a darkened mood within the scene and will also be used to set the tone for the rest of the film. In the Dark Knight Low key lighting was used in many scenes involving the Joker this adds an element of mystery to the character and scene. The dialogue will make the opening sequence more chilling because it is abrupt and unexpected. The opening scene will end with the use of a transition, dissolve I chose to use dissolve because combined with the fading voice over add more to the tension and chills as the last word from the antagonist linger. The second location within the apartment will the living room this is where Michael the antagonist will rape and kill Stella. The living room will be the setting in which Michael and the protagonist Detective Matthews interrogate each other then reaching a conclusion in which they both work together. The lighting during this scene will be dark and using mute colours during this scene I was inspired by the Dark Knight and Skyfalls use of mute colours this made scenes involving the antagonist and protagonist even more dramatic. The shots used during this scene will be close-ups of the characters while they converse use of shot reverse while they talk to each other this will allow the conversation to seem more realistic when the audience are watching. Location 2

The second location will be the hallway in which detective Matthews is standing against the door of the apartment waiting to break into the apartment. The location is plain and boring in contrast to

the events on screen. The shots I will be using the scene are close-ups and medium shots. This is to keep focus on the protagonist of the film as he realises whats taking place behind the door of the flat. The lighting during the scene will be vibrant and not dark because of the lights provided by the building itself. The camera angles in the scene will be used to highlight the Detectives horror at what exactly is happening, although because of his job he is expected to have experienced something like this before it still doesnt stop him from being shocked. In the Dark Knight Batman although he is calm and collected this still doesnt stop him from being shocked at what the antagonist the Joker was capable of doing and I tired to recreate this in the nine key frames. The sound used will help build up tension and fear as the detective gets close to seeing the person behind the score music will play subtly in the background as the screams of the antagonist victims are the main focus of this scene.

Location 3

The third location is a living room in keeping with the theme of having a plain location in contrast to the violent events taking place within it. In this location the antagonist Michael explains little bit about himself and why he does the things he does. Like the two films in my textual analysis when both antagonist are held captive it is only then the audience truly understand the characters. So in my two minute piece I will try to recreate this by using intense dialogue between the antagonist and protagonist. I will use different camera angles to show the change in power between the two characters as the dialogue in the scene develops. I will start by using short reverse shot to show the relationships between the two characters develop. This will allow the audience to further understand the character. Close-ups of the character will be used to show how both characters react to each other but also signify the importance of the dialogue said on screen. In the Dark Knight and Skyfall the audience gained a better understanding of the antagonist through the use of the dialogue in the interrogation scene. The audience had a greater understanding for the motives behind the antagonist. So the dialogue I need to recreate will need to be as intense and captivating. This will entice the same feeling within the audience and will make the antagonist the main focus of the scene this was prevalent during the scenes in which Joker and Silva were interrogated, the presence on screen shifted from the protagonist to the antagonist. I will also use low key lighting around the antagonist this was used in the Dark Knight to develop the Joker during the scene. It made Joker more frightening when he partially came into the light because there was an air of mystery around the character. The Dark Knight will inspire the score music used in this scene, the score music complemented the action on screen. The tempo and pace of the score music was perfect for the action on screen. So in this scene I will try match the score music with the action on screen when the intensity between the two character increase so will the tempo and pace of the score music.
