Matt Abraitis Robert Vincent FLITE 29 April 2014 Learning Contract My goal was to identify and utilize my Strengths

in an organization/interpersonal setting that aligns with the mission, vision, values and sponsored programs and activities of URIs Center for Student Leadership Development. I accomplished this goal through obtaining the position of a Leadership Ambassador and assisting the Center for Student Leadership Development through Welcome Day. My task was to speak to perspective students and persuade them to decide to attend to URI in addition to persuading them to fulfill the Leadership Minor. The Welcome Days were very successful. I achieved my task by acting through my strengths. Specifically, I used my Gallup Strengths of Positivity and Woo. My task, as mentioned above, was to persuade students. When beginning a conversation with said task, I had to come off in a positive manner in order to grab the attention of the individuals I was speaking with. This is where my Gallup Strength of positivity comes into play. By naturally being positive, up-beat and a good communicator, I had no issue holding the attention of the individuals I was discussing the Center for Student Leadership Development. However, holding the attention of individuals was only half the battle; I then had the task of persuading them to sign up for Leadership Institute and to receive information on the minor. I accomplished this task by using my Woo. Woo is practically the natural ability to influence individuals in a positive manner. This combination of my Positivity and Woo allowed me to be a successful Leadership Ambassador. However, the individuals attending Welcome Day were not the only individuals educated; I also worked on and educated myself on how to be a better leader based off of my experience as a Leadership Ambassador. Particularly, throughout the day I would work on my listening skills. Realizing that listening is one of my deficits, I would work on hearing what the people I was speaking with had to say and respond to it accordingly. This would not only improve my listening skills but also impress the individuals I was trying to persuade. In all,

being a Leadership Ambassador helped me work on my deficits while also assisting the Center for Student Leadership Development. Attached are two pictures of the pamphlets I was trained to discuss and gave to perspective students for Leadership Ambassador which is evidence to support my work at the Welcome Days.
