WEEK TWO LESSON PLAN Setting 2nd Grade General Music National and State Standards 1.

0 Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire or music 1.1 Sing melodies in varied modes with appropriate style, accurate pitch and rhythm. 1.2 Demonstrate the ability to sing expressively using proper vocal technique. Previous Knowledge Students have sung several pentatonic and diatonic songs before, and have learned songs from the teacher by rote and has transferred into symbolic as well as iconic notation. Objectives: The learner will: Sing If youre happy and you Know it with accurate pitch, rhythm, tempo dynamics, tempo and phrasing Exhibit good posture, grade-appropriate diction, breath control, and tone in both head and chest voice through the singing of If youre happy and you Know it. Keep a consistent tempo while using a small percussion instrument for a creative solo. Materials Needed: Singing voices Small Percussion instruments Procedures 1. Students will keep a steady beat while I sing If Youre Happy and You Know it twice by rote. 2. The entire class will now sing twice with me. 3. Then, the class will will sing alone as a class. 4. At this point, the each student will be given a small percussion instrument (rhythm stick, shaker, hand drum) 5. We will then sing If Youre Happy and You Know it while each student gets chance to solo when called upon. Ex. Instead of singing clap your hands as a lyric, it will be changed to Gary play or Susan Play and they will keep a steady tempo when doing so. Assessments Informal assessment of singing is embedded throughout the lesson through group performance.
