SIMULTANEOUS EQUATIONS (Solving simultaneous equations means to find the intersection point)

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Able to find the points of intersection of a line and a curve.

SOLVE LINEAR EQUATIONS IN TWO UNKNOWNS


Method 1: Elimination method
Coefficient of one of the unknowns must be the same for both equations. Example: Find the intersection point of 2x 3y = 12 and 3x + 4y = 1.

SOLVE LINEAR EQUATIONS IN TWO UNKNOWNS


Method 2: Substitution method
Use 1 2 1 or 2 1 2. Example: Solve the simultaneous equations : 2x + y = 5 and x + 2y = 7
