1. All data organized into a table: (see attached data table) 2. Statistics for first quantitative variable: (length of forearm- inches) Mean: 11.242 inches Standard Deviation: 1.696 inches Five-number summary: minX= 7 inches Q1= 10.5 inches med= 11.25 inches Q3= 12 inches maxX= 18 inches Range: 11 inches Mode: 11 Outliers: 18 inches

3. Histogram and Boxplot for first quantitative variable:

5. Statistics for second quantitative variable: (length of hand- inches) Mean: 7.129 inches Standard Deviation: 0.608 inches Five-number summary: minX= 5 inches Q1= 7 inches med= 7 inches Q3= 7.5 inches maxX= 8.25 inches Range: 3.25 inches Mode: 7 inches Outliers: 5 inches

6. Histogram and Boxplot for second quantitative variable:

8. Statistics for testing the correlation between the two variables: Linear correlation coefficient: 0.66768825 Equation for line of regression: 4.4385785 + 0.23934068

9. Scatterplot that includes line of regression:

Difficulties/surprises encountered:

Working in a group was difficult because we had to figure out what we wanted to do for our project and coordinate how the data would be gathered. We each had conflicting schedules so it became hard to meet up and work together but we finished our data just in time to start the research. During my individual researching I struggled with entering the data correctly in the computer, as well as my calculator, and I had forgotten how StatCrunch worked so I had to get help with my graphs.

Analysis:

The correlation coefficient determines the strength of the relationship between X and Y, and the positive or negative signs (+ or -) indicates the direction of the relationship. The closer the correlation coefficient is to -1 or +1, the stronger the relationship. The linear correlation coefficient from my research is 0.668, meaning there is a semi strong relationship between my X and Y values.

Interpretation and conclusions:

My research question is "Is forearm length related to hand length?" If someone were to look at the scatter plot from problem #9 they probably wouldn't think there's a correlation between length of forearm and length of hand, but because the linear correlation coefficient is 0.668, which is relatively close to 1, there is a semi strong positive correlation between the two variables.
