Beth Sewell Secondary Education Department Chair University of North Alabama RE: Application for the Instructional Leadership Program Dr. Sewell: It is with great enthusiasm that I submit my portfolio for admission into the Instructional Leadership program at the University of North Alabama. I currently hold a Class B Certification in Elementary Education grades 1-6, a Class B Certification in Secondary English Language Arts, and a Class A Certification in Elementary grades K-6. I am employed by Mars Hill Bible School where I presently teach high school English, both college bound and honors classes. I believe the Instructional Leadership endorsement to my certificate, which I am seeking, will allow me to best grow as an educator. I am interested in the program because I enjoy challenging myself, working with students of all ages, and expanding my education. I believe this path will allow me the opportunity to fulfill my goals of leadership in my school. With this endorsement, I will have greater opportunities to mentor teachers while encouraging personal growth, to work with more students in order to increase academic achievement, and to form a working relationship with parents in order to encourage more parental involvement in the educational process. I am self-motivated; I am not afraid of hard work, and I am eager to learn new things. Classroom observations show that I am a leader in the use of technology in my school and that I can effectively manage my classroom. My strengths and abilities are what you are looking for in a candidate for your program. Teaching in a small school means wearing many hats. I served as the lead teacher in fourth grade and as cheerleader sponsor for 15 years. I also currently serve as junior class sponsor, yearbook advisor, member of SACS School Improvement Team, member of the technology committee, mentor for new teachers, and leader of mini tech workshops. I would enjoy being a part of your program and learning from you. I look forward to speaking to you in the near future. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely,

Kim Chandler Mars Hill Bible School
