Organizational Overview: The Hospitality House, located in Boone, NC, is a nonprofit organization that specializes in helping those in crisis, poverty and who are homeless. The Hospitality House assists men, women and children in Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes and Yancey counties. This organizations goals are to implement effective programs that help people rebuild their lives through providing adequate housing, nutrition and support. Founded: the Boone Coalition of Churches founded Hospitality House of the Boone Area, Inc. in 1981. In 1985, a permanent location was established on King Street in Boone, NC. Services: The Hospitality House of Boone offers seven major programs including an emergency shelter, transitional and family housing, and permanent supportive housing, Bread of Life Community Kitchen, WeCAN- Watauga Crisis Assistance Network, Operation Round-Up and Good Neighbor Round-Up. The Hospitality House also offers different weekly workshops and outreach resources available to residents and community members. Revenue Sources/ Major Donors: The Hospitality House relies heavily on the contributions of its donors. Public support and contributions in 2011 totaled 940,167. Last year, eighty percent of the Hospitality Houses operating budget came from private contributions, whereas government grants contributed twenty percent. In 2011, total revenue was $963,155 and total expenses were $1,416,349.
