Decide what you want the students to know, understand, or end up being able to do. Must be clear Find or create these. Non examples are examples of things that are not the concept being learned. Examples are of the actual concept, and they must be high-quality, in proper context, and varied Models: visual representations that allow us to see what we cant see directly Vignettes: short case studies Simulation: acting/role playing

Can start simply. Attract attention and lay the groundwork for the lesson. Give examples, ask for observations and comparisons of those examples. Promotes student connection and makes sure that they succeed in learning. Students should be able to state the characteristics of the concept or describe the relationship in the generalization.

- Use dialogue to promote critical thinking in your students - ask open ended questions rather than ones with a set answer or with simple yes or no answers - Be creative in assessment since this is a relatively creative teaching model - Use assessment to increase learning: explaining and talking about answers to assessments can help the students actually learn more about the topic or concept.

- Students develop a deeper understanding of the content than just facts from the surface - They learn critical thinking skills - High levels of involvement: because the students are involved, they are more interested in the topic and participating in what is going on. - Assured and guaranteed success - Sense of the unknown: because this model encourages curiosity, it automatically is more interesting to the students

So what? What is important to understand about this?

This model increases critical thinking skills and deep understanding rather than simply memorizing facts.
