Today class, we are going to outside on a scavenger hunt. Who likes to go outside and dig around in the dirt?

Well, today we are going to go outside and see if we can find some rocks that are big, little, rough, smooth, heavy, or light. We will also see if we can find some different colored rocks and find out how rocks get their different color and shapes.

SKE2c. Students will also recognize rocks as part of earths materials such as the landmark listed below: Citadel Rock Landmark of Montana

The characteristics related to the grain size is the rocks texture. The following are some examples of each texture.

After going outside which of the two rocks did we find to be the smoothest and which the roughest? Which of the senses did we use to find this out?

Which rock Is Dark, & Which rock Is Light?

The various colors of rocks are caused by just what the rock itself is composed of. There are many substances and minerals that make up rocks, all having their own characteristics, including color.
