JECS, An Experience

Just Enjoy Complete Security

America experienced 2.5 million home burglaries every year from 2009 to 2011. About 30% of these burglaries are committed through an open/unlocked door or window, and on top of that, 66% are residential break-ins. 85% of break-ins are from non-professionals, making them more desperate, and in turn, more dangerous. Only 17% of the homes in America have home security systems. A home invasion occurs every 13 seconds. Home Owners are most at risk in July and August during the day while occupants are at school or work. Furthermore, businesses could use a security system, as seven percent of annual revenue is taken by theft or fraud. 42.7 percent of employee theft and 35.6 percent of shoplifting are the sources of inventory loss, and fifty billion dollars was lost last year based on theft.

Conclusion Overall, the process of creating our own Capstone project served as a good team building experience. Each member came up with ideas that made their way into the project, ranging from an acrylic base to a tread based rover. Our team also had many meetings in which we collectively decided upon group decisions. We also learned about the security market, as we researched into the field and brought some valuable insight from it, even taking opinions from an expert in the field. We would like to thank Brock for designing our logo, and Lizzy for acting as a test subject.

About the Team Eric Stoll: Eric is one of our most creative members, even coming up with the incredible Indiana Jones death ball and sharks with lasers. He provided valuable insight, and built the invaluable rovers. Samantha Rennu: Sam managed the different testing phases and was responsible for documenting every step of the design processes and meetings. Jonathon Ingham: Jonathon built most of the prototypes, and was mostly noted for making the ceiling mounted turret, and plastic projectiles for the ABS barrel.
