Thesis: This poem is fundamentally about Literal: A confused woman has gotten lost in a place that she usually goes
Figurative: Has different realities and has entered into one of them and is not sure which one that she is in
Images- stone lions, gleam like wet seals, paths trickling with water, green birds are stiff with dripping pride = representation of how a part of her is dead but she is still proud of that part of her; the stiffness comes from death and the green in the birds can be her youth and the errors that she has done in her youth.
Language/Literary Devices- metaphor, epiphany, appearance versus reality, repetition of I, simile, verbal irony, understatement
Mood-
Alternative perspective(1)Opened a usual door found death that brought the persona on a journey; the person is dead and saw how they were before and is being punished for she has done in her life.
