Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION 1 Ch a p t e r 1 Chapter Name
This chapter describes basic instructions, precautions and work flow of emergency maintenance. Basic Instruction Before doing emergency maintenance work, consider and follow the basic instructions: 1. Emergency maintenance should focus on restoring the normal running of the equipment quickly. 2. To be more efficient in emergency troubleshooting, read emergency maintenance documents in advance. 3. In case of service interruption, contact maintenance personnel at the OMCR side, query the related OMCR alarms and identify the problem. If the service interruption occurs to multiple BTSs, check whether the Abis interface and the transmission circuit are normal. If the module or board gets faulty, make sure whether the data or version of the board is changed. If BSC, transmission equipment or transmission circuits are normal, check and maintain the BTSs. Contact maintenance personnel at the OMCR side to co- operate with the emergency maintenance at BTS side. Carry the tools and common spare parts to the BTS site for emergency maintenance. 4. After finishing the emergent fault processing, collect equipment alarm information related to this accident. Send the relevant fault processing report, equipment alarm file and log file to ZTE for fault analysis and location.
2 Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION Precautions Emergency maintenance usually has an impact on system running, so the maintenance personnel must have relevant maintenance experience and familiar with the equipment. Conduct maintenance under the instruction of experienced maintenance personnel. If the fault is major, contact ZTE customer support center or ZTE local office as soon as possible. Emergency Maintenance Work Flow FI GURE 1 - EMERGENCY MAI NTENANCE WORK FL OW
Chapter 1Chapter Name Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION 3 Emergency maintenance flow includes the following steps. 1. Check the services. According to service interruption, check whether the BTS fails through the topological view, and check the alarm information on OMCR client. Also check whether the fault occurs to individual BTS or multiple BTSs. 2. Record fault abnormality and identify the fault cause. Identify the fault cause according to the emergency maintenance process in Figure 1 and make record, as shown in Table 4. TAB L E 4 - AB NORMAL I TY RECORDS I tem Description of Abnormality Emergency case occurring time Emergency case range Serious alarm item reported Measurement index of abnormal performance

3. Detect and analyze the fault. Detect and analyze the fault according to the fault symptoms. If the fault is not caused by the BSS equipment, ask the relevant personnel to solve the problem. If the fault lies in the BSS equipment, analyze whether the fault is in BSC or BTS. If the fault cannot be cleared, then contact ZTE customer support center or ZTE local office. 4. Restore the service. After locating the fault cause, restore the service quickly. If the fault cause cannot be located soon, try to make a switchover, reset or change the board to restore the system services.
4 Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION Notes: Before restoring the services, back up the system data. Before changing the hardware configuration, such as connection and board slot, record the current status first. Record all steps and process during the service recovery.
5. Observe the restored service After restoring the service from emergent fault, make sure the system runs normally. Check the service recovery by making call test, and check performance report statistics. 6. Feedback Summarize the fault process, record the fault processing table and feed back to ZTE customer support centre.

Chapter 2Emergency Maintenance Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION 7 BTS emergency maintenance involves the following steps: View the alarm information and performance statistics report at OMCR client. Collect subscribers complaints and analyze the BTS fault situation. Check whether the fault caused to individual BTS or multiple BTSs.
Check the power supply is stable or not. If not, observe it for a while and then perform the following tests. Check external power voltage range at the input port of the cabinet. Normal system voltage range is given below: Approximate working power supply voltage is 220 VAC (130 VAC~300 VAC). When 110 VAC power input, the approximate value is 110 VAC (88 VAC~ 132 VAC). If the external power supply is normal, turn off the power supply switch. Check the connections between power cables and the cabinet. If the connections are loose, then check whether the power supply channel has the burst trail.
Confirm the transmission status with the Maintenance personnel to make sure whether the transmission status is normal. Make sure whether data adjustment or cut-over was made before. Perform the transmission loop test from BTS and BSC to identify the transmission status. Uplink and downlink signal communications are normal and the BTS cannot be normally started when there are cross connected lines for transmission. If the problem lies in transmission, ask the transmission personnel to handle it as soon as possible. BTS has the following requirements for transmission indices: Transmission Bit Error Ratio (BER) should be lesser than 10 -6 . Otherwise, it may lead to data output error or LAPD transient interruption. Satellite transmission delay should be lesser than 260 ms. Otherwise, it may cause call drop, congestion or abnormal data transmission. Clock precision should be lesser than 0.05 ppm (corresponding to 13 MHz 0.65 Hz). If the switching Check System Services Power Supply Failure Transmission Failure
8 Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION requirement is not considered, the clock precision for the external can be 0.2 ppm. Normally, BTS clock precision should be less than 0.02 ppm. TS allocation failure causes LAPD interruption under normal transmission conditions. Main causes of TS allocation failure: Inconsistency between the background configuration data and the data indicated by the DIP can cause LAPD interruption. E1 timeslot multiplexer in the middle of the transmission path can cause TS allocation inconsistency between BTS and BSC. When multiplexer fails or its data configuration is wrong. E1 timeslot for the BTS cannot transmit data transparently and BTS LAPD functions improperly. BSC and BTS check the received signals, not transmission signal. So, transmission problem will not be reported as an alarm. Remove the transmitting E1 on either side and check whether the peer side can receive signals. BSC can detect a remote alarm on the downlink. LED Indicator on the TIC will not blink when the downlink E1 does not receive signals.
Record LED indicator states of the faulty boards, as shown in Table 6. TAB L E 5 - FA UL T BOARD I NDI CATOR STATUSES LED Indicator Color (A for Red/ B for Green) Blinking Pattern (1 Hz A/ 4 Hz B/ Constantly On C/ Constantly Off D/ Others E) Others (In the Case of E)
Record faulty boards location in the following format: Site type: Model: Position: Record the hardware and software version number, as shown in Table 6. Hardware Failure

Power-off the faulty module and then power it on again. Unplug the module and then plug it again. Replace the faulty module.
Check the BTS and transmission equipment grounding. Check whether the grounding cable is loose, aging or rusty. Check whether the grounding resistance is in the normal range. Check whether the grounding drop line is connected to the ground grid fixedly. Check whether the ground grid system complies with the design, and whether receptivity reduction mixture is added regularly. Check the antenna feeder cable connections.
Check whether the impedance of TIC board is consistent with BTS. Check whether the radio data and version type are correct. Check whether the data configured at the switching side are correct.
After troubleshooting, fill the maintenance details in the BTS maintenance table. FI L L I N THE BTS MAI NTENA NCE TAB L E, A S SHOWN I N
