Thank you for the link. 't was an enjoyable reading.

Two remarks:
1. It is not clear at all that Parfit's Simple ase e!emple "the potential mother with rubella# is
enough for supporting the Principle of $eneficence. %or instance& here is a principle that supports
Parfit's Simple ase but falls short as far as the Principle of $eneficence is concerned:
"'in# (ur actions should all other things being e)ual minimi*e the occurrence of properties that
indi+idually will make a negati+e contribution to anybody's well,being& actual or yet,to,become,
actual.
"'in# supports the Simple ase because delaying the pregnancy is an instance of pre+enting the
occurrence of a certain disease in an indi+idual whose well, being it would make a negati+e
contribution to.
$ut of course& your Principle of $eneficence re)uires more than "'in#- it re)uires& among other
things:
"'a!# (ur actions should all other things being e)ual ma!imi*e the occurrence of properties that
collecti+ely will make a positi+e contribution to anybody's well,being& actual or yet,to,become
actual.
together with the claim that:
".# Selecting genetical features of yet,to,become, actual indi+iduals can succeed or fail with respect
to "'a!#.
Since "'a!# is not supported& the argument looks incomplete.
/. "'a!# seems to entail some absurdity unless it is restricted to actual indi+iduals. Indeed& if
unrestricted& "'a!# seems to create duties whose satisfaction conditions include possible
indi+iduals& that is& indi+iduals such that& possibly& they will ne+er e!ist. "'a!# seems to create
those duties since it implies rankings between sets of properties that collecti+ely make a difference
to a well, being& and the assessment of that collecti+e contribution cannot but depend on how those
properties will interact with other properties of the indi+idual as well as with its en+ironnement.
"'in# does not ha+e this problem since it e!cludes undesirable properties without bothering
whether those properties will actually occur or how they would collecti+ely contribute to a well,
being.
$ut if so restricted& "'a!# of course cannot justify your Principle of $eneficence.
