Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
NAEYC Standard:
STANDARD 7. EARLY CHILDHOOD FIELD EXPERIENCES
Field experiences and clinical practice are planned and sequenced so that candidates develop the
knowledge, skills and professional dispositions necessary to promote the development and
learning of young children across the entire developmental period of early childhood in at least
two of the three early childhood age groups (birth age 3, 3 through 5, 5 through 8 years) and in
the variety of settings that offer early education (early school grades, child care centers and
homes, Head Start programs).(NAEYC 2010)
Brief Description of Evidence:
During my past few semesters, I have worked with different ages of children. I have
performed several observations, created lesson plans, and was involved in a preschool and school
age practicum. I have taken pictures of several children performing activities and interacting with
each other. I have several experiences of being a lead teacher and a teachers assistant. I have
also have worked at a registered ministry, licensed centers, and a licensed in-home.
Analysis of What I Learned:
Through the completion of these experiences, I have learned how to adjust to different
situations and how to interact, teach, and support children of all ages. I have learned how to
accommodate the need of each child in my care. I have learned how to plan, implement, and
create activities and arrange learning centers. I also learned how to use and enforce state
guidelines and standards.
How This Artifact Demonstrate my Competence on the NAEYC Standard:
As an early childhood educator I have learned, planned, taught, interacted, and
participated in many experiences. I have developed certain skills, resources, and knowledge
about how to teach and support different ages of children. I have assisted at a licensed in-home
and at an elementary school with kindergarteners. I have assisted with infants, toddlers, and
preschool children. I am skilled and familiar with the development of various ages of children
and how to promote social interactions.
