Section A Translation
1 Translate into English:

2 Translate into Sinhala:
The paddy fields were muddy after the heavy rains and many of the tall plants were lying flat on
the ground. A boy stepped lightly through the puddles, making sure as he placed his toes down
that he could feel the solid ground beneath him. Earlier in the day, he had watched his friend skip
through the field in a hurry, and fall waist deep into a small pool of water.
He wanted to go and see what state the railway track was in at the other side of the field. The train
that goes between the big cities passes this point twice a week, just after midday. The service had
been disrupted by heavy rains that had submerged part of the track.
As he went into the field that the track passed through, he noticed that the track was not even
visible. He had to wade almost knee deep through the water. In the distance, he heard the sound
of an engine. There was no doubt that the train was on its way. He watched anxiously.
As the sound grew louder, he saw the train appear in the distance. Ahead of him, he could still see
no track. The engine rounded a corner and he watched as mud splashed up over two metres high
onto the windows of the train. Seconds later, the front of the train sped past him and the carriages
followed behind. Today, there were no problems.
