Intro
The characters are summoned before the local governor. Standing with him
is a clergyman.
Yesterday, a religious procession was attacked some 8 miles west of town.
The clerics were taking an important artifact, the Icon of Vestriana on a tour
of the kingdom. The party was massacred and the Icon is missing.
Evidence points to the Broken Skull goblin tribe.
The governor has been contacted by the King and the High Priestess of the
realm and ordered to recover the Icon of Lady Vestriana. The governor is
mustering his troops to march on the goblins in 2 days time. This punitive
action is largely a diversion to keep the goblins busy. Your job will be to use
your diverse talents to track those responsible and recover the Icon.
The local Temple has provided a companion artifact - the Staff of
Righteousness (Staff +2 vs Undead, +2 to Turn Undead). It processes a
sympathetic magic causing it to glow when near the Icon. By examining the
strength of it's light, the party should be able to tell if they are moving closer
to the Icon.
The party is provided provisions, horses and an escort of 10 men-at-arms
(Fighter 3, AC 7, hp 10, Spear 1d6).
