IR Module Fault

1) Open the cabinet door.


2) Locate the Siemens drive modules (Please reference the pictures and
diagrams for more information.)
3) Look for an alarm code on the Spindle rive! or an error light on one of the
a"is drive modules or #$ %odule. (&rom left to right the modules are in the
follo'ing order. #$ %odule! Spindle %odule! ()* a"is module! and the +)a"is
module.)
,) #f there are no lights visible on the Siemens rive package! -erif./
a) ,00 -12 suppl. to the #$ %odule
b) %achine breaker is turned on
3) #f the a 4 b are correct! and there are no lights are present on the drive unit!
perform the follo'ing procedure
a) 5urn off the main breaker to the machine.
b) Let the machine sit for 10 minutes in a powered down state before
continuing. High voltage !00"#$) is still present in the drive
module after the machine is powered down% Failure to do so will
result in personal in&ur'%
c) 6hen the 10 minutes has e"pired! remove all of the ribbon cable
7umpers from the front of the drive module. (5ake note as to ho' the.
came off for re)assembl.)
d) $emove the plastic covers from the bus 7umpers.
e) -erif. 0 -2 bet'een the t'o bus bars.
f) 8sing a 5or" bit scre'driver! disconnect the bus 7umpers bet'een all
of the drive modules.
g) 5urn on the main breaker. (a)e care not to come into contact with
the now e*posed bus%%
h) #f the green and .ello' led9s do not come on 'hen po'er is applied!
the #$ %odule has failed. Please call a :urco Service representative.
i) #f the ;reen and .ello' led9s do come on! turn off the main breaker!
and wait
(en minutes for the module to discharge voltage%
7) 1fter 10 minutes! attach the 7umpers and ribbon cables bet'een the #$
%odule and the ne"t module to the right. (Spindle drive module)
k) 5urn on the main breaker. #o not come into contact with e*posed
bus%) #f the led9s on the #$ %odule come on! and .ou get a displa. on
the Spindle rive module! 5urn off the %ain <reaker! wait 10 minutes+
and connect the ne"t module in line. (( 4 * 1"is drive module.)
2ontinue this procedure till .ou find the module that causes the
problem.
=) #f the led marked >%? is lit! check the connections to the affected motor.
,-(./ 01 on the dual a*is module is 1+ and 02 is 3 a*is)
@) #f the led marked >1? is lit! perform the follo'ing steps/
a) 2heck the integrit. of the drive b. s'apping the a"is drives.
A"ample/ the ( B * a"is drive module is sho'ing an >1? alarm on
section
11. 5he error is in the ( a"is.
1) %ark! remove! and s'ap the ( and * 1rmature leads! marked 11
(() and 12 (*) from the bottom of the ( B * drive section.
2) A"change connectors (311 (() 'ith (313 (*).
3) A"change (331 (() 'ith (332 (*)
,) #f the 1 led remains in the >11? section! 5he ( a"is portion of the
drive has failed
3) #f the led moves to the >12? section! the problem is in the ( a"is
motor or cables.
C) 5o determine 'hether the Plug #n module or the Po'er module has failed!
perform the follo'ing procedure.
a) 5urn off the main breaker.
b) 0llow 10 minutes for the voltage to dissipate in the drive.
c) isconnect the bus 7umpers from the affected a"is drive module
d) $emove the >11? and >12? armature plugs.
e) 8sing a voltmeter set to >iode 2heck?! measure bet'een the top bus
terminal and each one of the armature connections on the drive for the
affected a"is.
f) S'ap the leads and check again.
g) Do'! repeat the procedure from the bottom bus terminal.
h) 1 normal drive sho's some continuit. one 'a.! and 'hen the leads of
the voltmeter are s'apped! should sho' no continuit.. #f continuit. is
found 'ith both 'a.s! the po'er module needs to be replaced.
