We begin with an exercise that will provide fundamental skills that will be used.

APPCO Corporation manufactures small appliances and sells them to major retailers and
specialized retailers.
APPCO hopes to improve its profitability and its efficiency by better allocating its internal
resources and by better adapting to changing market needs. In order to attain these objectives,
APPCO is analyzing its internal operations and value chains.
Imagine you are part of the team responsible for carrying out this analysis and for suggesting
improvements. To do this, you must first of all have a good understanding of the current situation,
starting with the most basic element: the hierarchical structure of the company.
The first step is to capture the current business organization via a company organizational chart.
For this exercise we will limit the amount of information to a manageable amount while still
providing a basis from which to model other activities.
The different Org-Units of the Structure type that are part of the APPCO Corporation are:
General Management
Sales Management
Production Management
Purchasing and Financial Management
Logistics Department
Research & Development
Quality Assurance
Accounts Department.
Local Purchasing Department
