The countries of Egypt and Germany possess two very different populations, with people aged
15 and under making up 33% of Egypts population and those !5 years or older making up "#% of
Germanys population$ %espite this difference, &oth countries are on a path to social turmoil and
economic depression$
Egypts young adult population continues to grow$ 'ith this growth comes an a&undance of
educated youth$ (owever, the market for white)collar *o&s is scarce$ This issue +may result in rising
unemployment, increasing emigration, and political protest+ ,-chneider . -ilverman, "#13, p$ "/50$
1sing the -ocial 2onflict Theory, these issues will lead to social turmoil and economic depression$
'ith rising unemployment comes dissatisfaction among the people, resulting in political protest which
can *eopardi3e the sta&ility of a society$ 1nemployment also leads educated people to search for *o&s
elsewhere$ 'ith this increase in emigration, the &irthrate and population will decrease$ 4ot only will
this cause social insta&ility, &ut it will negatively affect Egypts economy$ 5f the white)collar *o& market
does not improve within the ne6t twenty years, Egypt will &e in a position of economic collapse and
social unrest$
7ike the youth of Egypt, Germanys citi3ens are highly educated and looking for white collar
*o&s$ 8lthough there is a market for such careers, there is a fear of what is known as a +&rain drain, a
loss of educated, highly skilled workers+ ,-chneider . -ilverman, "#13, p$ "/90$ This is due to the fact
that many educated people +are leaving Germany to earn higher salaries and to advance in their fields+
,-chneider . -ilverman, "#13, p$ "/90$ 'ith lower salaries among those who stay in Germany comes
+little incentive for people to try their &est, reducing the societys productive efficiency+ ,Macionis,
"#11, p$ "110$ 8s a result, emigration is increasing, and the population is at risk$ The -ocial 2onflict
Theory predicts that if Germany continues on this path for the ne6t twenty years, then, like Egypt, it is
headed for hard economic times and social insta&ility$
