Research Proposal
Research question: What are the differences in safety regulations of vehicles between the United States
and the UK?
1. What prior accidents have caused such a push for safety regulations in the UK?
2. Are there more fatalities in the US due to car related injuries?
*3. Since 2010 when many advanced regulations were set in place in the UK, how has the consumer
market reacted?
*4. What are some of the new safety regulations that have been put in place?
5. Based on statistical data have the new safety regulations helped to improve injuries/ fatalities?
6. Are the cost of vehicles with safety features more than those without? If so by how much?
7. Are the regulations for commercial vehicles and personal vehicles different?
8. Are there laws set in place to push safety of vehicles?
9. Which country between the two has the most restrictions when it comes to the safety of vehicles?
10. Are there special circumstances when it comes to imported vehicles?
11. Does the design of the cars? Make/Model? Contribute to safety factors
12. Are safe cars built differently than those without the features?

The first source has to deal with the United States and my second source comes from the government
website of England under the publication and vehicle safety standards tab. It is a collection of
information sheets that range from general motors to frames, electrically assisted pedals, seat belts and
tinting. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vehicle-safety-standards-information-sheets It
was published January 19, 2012 which is recent and one of the most updated sources I have found. It
came from the organization of department of transport under the policy Making roads safer
