CREATE AS-IS PROCESS MAP
Gather key members of your team in one room and map out existing processes,
noting cycle time and the individuals involved in the completion of each task.
Categorize each scenario as occurring frequently or infrequently, manual or auto-
mated, and whether it will remain manual or automated.
Determine the processes that are critical to your business. They should have a
strategic influence and help customers.
Create an idealized process for each critical process. The idealized process should
ignore any potential constraints.
You have three alternatives:
1. Modify your idealized processes, factoring in constraints (time, money, human
resources capabilities).
2. Bring in an ERP vendor to explain how their system can accommodate your
idealized processes.
3. Aim to simplify before you automate. Eliminate unnecessary steps.
This should detail duty changes, reporting line changes, budget estimates, training,
and resources.
Customize your ERP system to accommodate your intended process flows.
