The Scientific Method

By Max
Little charley wanted to be a scientist but he did
not know how to be a scientist. So he went up
to his dad and asked him how he could be a
Scientist. His Dad told him to look for
something and ask a question. So, he walked
around in search of something to ask a
question about. He then looked down and saw
that the ants were traveling in a straight line.
So he said to himself why are the ants
traveling in a straight line and so Charlie's
scientific adventure began.
Charlie went up to his mom and asked her if he
could barrow her book on Ants. He then went
on to the computer looked up Ant behavior,
his mother was pretty impressed with him
because he was only six years old. But in two
minutes Charlie found out that ants leave
scent trails for other ants to follow. Charlie's
mother was now really impressed. Charlie
then had a theory that needed testing. But
first he needed to think about this idea.
Charlie formed the idea (as he was later told by
his dad this idea is called a hypothesis) that if
he put an object in the way of the ants then
the lead ant would make a new sent trail.
Charlie tested his hypothesis as quickly as
possible and was so excited that he invited his
mom and dad to watch. Charlie's first
objective was to find a rock to place in front of
the ant column and sure enough the lead ant
made a scent trail that the others followed. He
showed this to his parents and they nodded
their heads in agrement.
Charlie then decided that he would write this all
down to study later. After writing this down,
Charlie concluded that his hypothesis was
correct. He ran as fast as he could to tell his
parents.
Charlie told his parents that he was right, and
his mother was so happy that she decided to
throw a party and invite his friends in order to
celebrate his accomplishments and his
birthday. Charlie had forgotten about that but
was still happy.
