GREEN SPACE TYPOLOGIES

waterfront park
o A modest-sized park on the water (around 5 acres) that feature multi-use
spaces and support a variety of activities. Because all of the waterfront
property in the South Central waterfront is privately owned, a waterfront
park in South Central Waterfront would be more intimate in scale and
activity level than other parks in Austin (such as Auditorium Shores or Zilker
Park) but that could serve, through landscape and design, as a defining
placemaking feature for the area.

green streets
o Streets that accommodate all street users with a particular focus on
creating a pedestrian-friendly environment by integrating planting and
landscapes to provide beauty, a sense of place, and environmental
benefit, particularly stormwater management.

urban trails
o In contrast to Austins more natural greenbelt, urban trails are mixed use
paths that run through more urban areas, that serves as off-street
connections for pedestrians and bicyclists, and that feature more urban
amenities such as paved surfaces, lighting, and benches.

green nodes
o Smaller green areas (0.25 or less, and up to-2 acres) such as pocket
plazas, pocket parks, etc. focused on pedestrian activity that create
places for small gatherings and/or pedestrian connections, and provide
relief from expanses of pavement.
