Reflection
When I began writing my paper on Minimum Wage I never expected to be so intrigued
by this topic. After writing my annotated bibliography and finishing my position paper I found
myself extremely passionate about this issue. I have gained a deeper understanding of the
function of our current economy and how the minimum wage effects it. I have always been
someone who goes about life with the belief that our government is doing all it can to protect
us and that laws and regulations are put in place to benefit the common people. After
discovering that a large portion of our society is in distress due to low wages, I came to the
realization that things are not always as they seem.
This class definitely took my writing to the next level. I learned how to properly
organize my papers so that my information was correctly supported and so my reader would
better understand my topic: which have been the things I have struggled with in the past. One
strong point I have regarding my final paper is that I believe I did a great job at developing my
own position. Not only did I develop a strong foundation behind my position I believe I did a
great job at providing evidence that my claims were true.
This newfound information instilled a sense of awareness inside me that I dont believed
would have manifested without this class, because it began to teach me how to critically think.
No longer will I go through life without questioning why and how things work in our economy.
With this course being a beginning English class I never thought I would walk away from it with
such a great new viewpoint on the world around me. Im very excited to continue my research
on Minimum Wage as well as other political topics such as, Health Care and Gay Marriage.
