Whats been happening?
We hope everyone enjoyed the short holiday break. Last week, the K2R class had their first swim session and the children really enjoyed the aquatic play instructed by Ms. Hedeby. The children felt comfortable in the water and practiced moving a floating ball with their breathing. Some even were brave enough to put their face in the water. Thanks to our amazing parent volunteers we had a safe, relaxing and fun lesson. We finished the lesson with a quick warm shower. Please remember to send swimming clothes, a towel and a hair tie if your child has long hair for swimming lessons. Goggles and swimming caps are great if you have them as well.
We started summative assessments last week and will continue with them this week. It has been such a wonderful unit of inquiry for the children as there were so many hands-on resources for the children to engage in. This week we will continue to see the growth and changes with our tadpoles. Next week we will revisit our on-going unit of inquiry How We Express Ourselves, where we will be exploring stories. We will select a few stories as a focus and then the children will have an opportunity to present a story in small groups, a familiar one or one that the group creates as part of their summative assessment.
Just a reminder starting this week The rest time for the children will be discontinued in order for us to prepare them for Prep class. At rest time we will have quiet activities and finish up class work. In the event a child falls asleep, we will put them in the class library to have a little rest; this is quite common initially until the childs time clock changes.
Children who arrive early (prior to 8:20am) by car or by bus will be asked to stay on the basketball courts until the cymbals ring. Children will put their school bags in a designated place assigned by the class teacher. This week, we will stay outside to monitor the children and then we will move away and let the regular duty supervisors take over. In the event it is raining, all students will be asked to directly go to the classroom. Yes, your child is growing and becoming an independent learner! They are really to take the next step.
Swimming lessons: We would like our parent volunteers to come to the classroom 30 minutes before lessons to help change the children (15minutes) and walk them to the pool (5-7minutes). Since the K2s have their lesson at the end of the day, we will need the child to carry both their school bag and swim bag directly to the pool so we can take the children to buses right after swimming.
