527 Lumberjack Road

Forest Oak Square, HK 08236

May 6, 2014
Dear Lumberjack Representative,

I am an oak tree, Silky, who is from a forest in Asia. Lumberjacks cut down
over 20% of my community every year, which causes hundreds of trees
and animals to die. I know it benefits you to ax us the trees, and we are
often sent to factories to make furniture or paper. But before you go and
take down another tree, I advice you to listen to what we, the trees, have to
say.

Do you know what it is like to live without trees? Without trees, every
living soul will not have oxygen, which means nothing can survive.

Without us, the food chain will no longer be in equilibrium. Animals will
have to roam the streets because they are homeless. If we are not there to
supply herbivores food, they will starve to death and even worse, go
extinct. Consequently, carnivores will be extinct since the herbivores are
wiped out.

In the forest, just like hunting hounds seize hares, predators capture their
prey. Following their instincts, prey will often climb up us trees and hide. If
we vanish from this world, the prey will be easily captured and eaten by
the predators, causing the population of predators to increase rapidly.
Eventually, predators will deplete their food and destroy the balance of the
ecosystem.

I hope you can understand the horrendous results humans not only bring
upon us, but also the environment. There are forests located south of here
where millions of trees grow and fewer animals live there. The best advice
is to grow more trees, so you can save more lives.

Sincerely,

Silky, the forest oak
(and 5th grader Candace)
