Amendments Project
The Constitution provides that an amendment may be proposed
either by the Congress with a two-thirds majority vote in both the
House of Representatives and the Senate or by a constitutional
convention called for by two-thirds of the State legislatures. None
of the 27 amendments to the Constitution have been proposed by
constitutional convention. A proposed amendment becomes part of
the Constitution as soon as it is ratified by 3/4 of the States 38 of 50
States. When the Office of the Federal Register verifies that it has
received the required number of authenticated ratification
documents, it drafts a formal proclamation for the archivist to
certify that the amendment is valid and has become part of the
United States Constitution.
What Amendments are and how they are ratified.
THE SIXTEENTH AMENDMENT
How this effects me:
This amendment forces me to
pay a small tax on anything
that I purchase in the state of
Texas, some other states pay
an extra tax at the end of the
year.
The Sixteenth Amendment:
The Congress shall have power
to lay and collect taxes on
incomes, from whatever source
derived, without apportionment
among the several states, and
without regard to any census or
enumeration.
The Twenty-sixth Amendment
How this effects me:
This amendment states that
I am not allowed to vote
until I am 18 years of age in
the united states.
Twenty-sixth Amendment:
The right of citizens of the
United States, who are
eighteen years of age or older,
to vote shall not be denied or
abridged by the United States
or by any State on account of
age. Congress shall have the
power to enforce this law
through appropriate
legislation.

The Twenty-second Amendment
How this effects me:
Since a President can only
serve two terms this
wouldnt allow me If I
wanted to vote for
Obama assuming he runs
in 2016 since Im not old
enough now to vote.
Twenty-second Amendment:
No person shall be elected to the office
of the President more than twice, and no
person who has held the office of
President, or acted as President, for
more than two years of a term to which
some other person was elected
President shall be elected to the office of
the President more than once. But this
Article shall not apply to any person
holding the office of President, when this
Article was proposed by the Congress,
and shall not prevent any person who
may be holding the office of President, or
acting as President, during the term
within which this Article becomes
operative from holding the office of
President or acting as President during
the remainder of such term.

The Eighth Amendment
How this effects me:
This could have helped me
when I got a ticket for
driving without a license,
where if the amendment
was not in place the judge
could have given me an
outlandish punishment
compared to a small fine
and community service.
The Eighth Amendment:
Excessive bail shall not be required,
nor excessive fines imposed, nor
cruel and unusual punishments
inflicted.

The Second Amendment
The Second Amendment:
A well regulated militia, being
necessary to the security of a
free state, the right of the
people to keep and bear
arms, shall not be infringed.
How this Amendment affects me:
This amendment allows my family and I to
own our own guns and form a militia to
ensure our safety and security without being
disturbed.
The Third Amendment
The Third Amendment:
No Soldier shall, in time of
peace be quartered in any
house, without the consent
of the Owner, nor in time
of war, but in a manner to
be prescribed by law.
How this Amendment affects me:
This amendment states that if the U.S. is
in a war taking place on our soil that the
government cannot force me to house
and feed American soldiers.

The Fourth Amendment
The Fourth Amendment:
The right of the people to be
secure in their persons, houses,
papers, and effects, against
unreasonable searches and
seizures, shall not be violated, and
no Warrants shall issue, but upon
probable cause, supported by
Oath or affirmation, and
particularly describing the place
to be searched, and the persons
or things to be seized.
How this affects me:
This amendment says that a
police officer may not
(without a warrant or
consent) enter my home and
search for and or seize
personal belongings.

First Amendment
First Amendment:

Congress shall make no
law respecting an
establishment of religion,
or prohibiting the free
exercise thereof; or
abridging the freedom of
speech, or of the press; or
the right of the people
peaceably to assemble,
and to petition the
Government for a redress
of grievances.

How this affects me:
If I wanted to protest the building of a new
mall this amendment would allow me to
protest and rally.

Amendment Twenty Eight
Amendment Twenty Eight:
All able bodied citizens of the
United States must complete
two years of military service by
the age of twenty one, all new
citizens from foreign countries
must complete two years of
military service within five
years of official citizenship.
How this affects me:
This would require me complete two
years of military service within the
next four years.
Repeal Amendment Twenty Six
Repealing Amendment Twenty Six:
I personally think most people are not
mature enough to vote by age 18 and I
think that the voting age should be
raised to 21.
How this affects me:
This change in the Constitution
would not allow me to vote next
year when I turn 18. But I will
have become more mature by
age 21.
