C. Roosevelts New Deal: Was Roosevelts New Deal effective in dealing with the depression?

Though the New Deal did not end the Great Depression, it was effective in dealing with
and mitigating the negative effects of the Depression. The 4-day bank holiday declared by the
President allowed Congress to pass the Emergency Banking Act, stabilizing banking in the
United States. Thanks to the Emergency Banking Act, half of the countrys banks were fit to re-
open. The act instilled confidence in the American people and more money was being deposited
rather than withdrawn as a result. The various Alphabet Agencies set up as a result of the New
Deal helped in aiding those hit hardest by the Depression. The Civilian Conservation Corps
(CCC) employed at least 2.5 million young men, giving many jobs to support themselves. The
Federal Emergency Relief Administration taught 1.5 million people how to read and write,
opening many doors to different careers for the previously illiterate.
