The Use of Steroids in Major League Baseball
Since the creation of Major League Baseball players have tried everything they
can to get a significant advantage over their rivals. In 1889 Pud Galvin became the first
major league player to be
known to use a performance-
enhancing drug. During World
War II both sides use enhancing
drugs to improve their soldiers mental and physical abili-
ties, after the war most of this soldiers went to college, and
they used their knowledge of drugs to gain an advantage
at college baseball and other sports.
In recent years, one of the most known steroids scandal is the case of Barry
Bonds, the former San Francisco Giants player and the all-time home run record holder
with 762 home runs during his career was accused of using anabolic steroids supplied
by his trainer Greg Anderson. Bonds denied the accusations in court, but more evidence
appeared later, and Barry Bonds was accused of perjury, and sentences to 2 years pro-

his career, and undoubtedly this contributed to his home run record, the commissioner of
Major League Baseball decided to keep his 762 home runs intact. The only player who
seemed like a strong contender to break Bonds's record was Alex Rodriguez, he was
suspended for the entire 2014 season in November 2013 for using anti-aging drugs.
The record still stands to this day, and nobody seemed to be able to break it in
the foreseeable future, until April 22, 2014 when Albert Pujols hit his 500th home run
showing that player doesn't need drugs to be an outstanding baseball player.
