Rhetorical Analysis
Tent City, USA

1. Tent City was a large group of homeless people who lived in Memphis Tennessee.
Homeless people arent helpless and when they work together they can create a life
for themselves more than living alone on the streets. Tent City shows homeless
people helping each other out to work towards a better life.

2. Logos is demonstrated by constantly interviewing people living in Tent City for
information versus people who dont live in Tent City.

3. Ethos is demonstrated through the fact that everyone who was selected to speak
during the documentary was in fact homeless and have been homeless on the
streets for years. Because the director took the time to actually speak with the
multiple homeless residents of Tent City

4. Pathos is demonstrated by the tone of the documentary and again the stories
shared. There is continually sad depressing music in the background to go along
with stories of hardship and oppression. These people are faced with so many
hardships with minimal help from the outside community.

5. This documentary was filmed over the course of many years, and where the story
went was completely up to the real life people being filmed. It was more of an
observational documentary. When the flood happened, the cuts between takes and
different music added to the nightmare affect the flood happened on everyone who
was a part of Tent City.

6. I think it was very effective. The target audience was clearly those of us who are
not homeless as this documentary was a day in the life of those struggling on the
streets. A gave a chance for the audience to see how the homeless, at least of group
of them, can help themselves in the situation they are in, and arent completely
helpless, just facing more hard times than others.
