REPORT

INTRODUCTION
Communicative approach being relatively new in Language Teaching, has been widely researched
and is yet in development. Teachers over the world still wonder how to manage it effectively in
their classrooms. Therefore, we should consider the following questions and most importantly,
their answers.
1. WHAT DO YOU UNDERSTAND BY COMMUNICATIVE ACTIVITIES?
A communicative activity takes place when there is an exchange of information between
the students; and sometimes, also the teacher. During these activities students interact
using the language they have been taught.
2. DO YOU INCLUDE COMMUNICATIVE ACTIVITIES IN YOUR LESSONS?

Yes. We include communicative activities such as simulating an interview, playing board
games, pair and group work discussions or debates, information gap activities and also
surveys, along with many others.

3. WHY SHOULD WE INCLUDE THEM IN OUR LESSONS?

Communicative activities foster students acquisition of both knowledge of the language
and the ability to use it appropriately (adequately to the context in which is used or
evaluated). Besides it creates a highly motivational environment.

4. WHAT MAKES AN ACTIVITY TRULY COMMUNICATIVE?

An activity is truly communicative when there is a genuine seek for information. This; at
the same time, involves interest and feedback from both ends of the conversation
(sometimes more than two people).
CONCLUSIONS
Communicative activities in the classroom are effective when used in a controlled way and not at
random.
