Swinburne University of Technology with the support of the Ports Australia will be offering a Port
Structural Design subject (HES6PSD) in Semester 2, 2011. The subject will be run in an intensive
mode (36 hours of lectures) during the spring semester break (19
th
to 23
rd
of September) at the
Hawthorn campus of Swinburne.
This subject is one of the two subjects in the Port Engineering course organised by the Swinburne
University of Technology and the Ports Australia during semester 2. The second subject, Port
Access and Navigation (HES6PAN), will run concurrently during the spring semester break of
2011. Another two subjects, Port and Harbour Engineering (HES6PHE) and Dredging Engineering
(HES6DRE), are run during semester 1. These courses are designed for engineers and non-
engineers who deals with port and harbour issues. None of the three subjects is a pre-requisite to
another, and the subjects can be taken separately: www.swinburne.edu.au/feis/portengineering

Students may formally enrol in the HES6PSD unit and complete assessment for credit, or you can
choose to register and attend the seminars only. The assessment involves one assignment, due at the
end of semester.
When:
A week of intensive seminars will be held on 19 - 23 September 2011 (36 hours).
Where:
The classes will be held at the Swinburne University of Technology, Hawthorn campus.
Cost:
The cost is ~$2100 (Australia Citizens and Permanent Residents).
How to apply:

All applications are due by 13 August 2011

Application to enrol in Port and Harbour Engineering as a single unit of study:
This will provide you with recognition of enrolment in this unit. You would receive a Swinburne
transcript with the respective grade for your assessment in this single unit of study. Successful
completion of this unit of study can be used as 12.5 points credit towards Swinburnes Graduate
Certificate in Port and Harbour Engineering (50 credit points). This also applies to other Port
Engineering Units that students may have already completed successfully.
For admission, applicants should have completed a bachelor degree or diploma in engineering, or
have relevant industry experience. To enrol in Port Access and Navigation as a single unit of study,
please complete and submit the Single Unit of Study application form to the Swinburne Admissions
Office as indicated on the application:

Seminar registration:
To attend the seminars without submitting any assessment, complete and return the attached
registration form with payment to the Finance Officer, Faculty of Engineering and Industrial
