The Judicial branch is made up of the
Supreme Court, Lower Courts, Special
Courts, and Court support organizations. This
branch is the weakest and its responsibility is
to pass all the laws. It was established in
article III of the constitution.
The supreme court is the head of the judiciary
branch
Its the only court established by the constitution
The constitution allows the supreme court to judge
whether federal, state, and local governments are
acting within the law
There are nine justices, or judges

Jurisdiction the authority of a court to hear a case
There is 4 Types of Jurisdiction:
Exclusive Jurisdiction : Only federal court has authority to hear, state court cant
Concurrent Jurisdiction federal or state court could hear
Original Jurisdiction court is the first one to hear a case
Appellate Jurisdiction court can only hear a case on appeal
The Court of Appeals has appellate jurisdiction

1803 Marbury v. Madison: First time a law passed by
Congress was declared unconstitutional
1857 Dread Scott v. Sanford: This declared that a slave was
not a citizen, and congress can not outlaw slavery in US
territories
1896 Plessy v. Ferguson: Racial segregation was legal
1954 Brown v. Board of Education: Racial segregation in
schools illegal
1966: Miranda v. Arizona: Stated that criminal suspects
must be informed of their rights before being questioned by
the police
After you commit a crime, the US attorney collects
all evidence
They gather up a jury to state whether your
innocent or guilty
If you are guilty and lose your trial, you can make
an appeal to a higher court
You will only get excepted if your case is major
problem

A appellate is any court of law that is empowered to
hear an appeal of a trial court
The authority of appellate courts was to review
decisions of lower courts varies widely from one
jurisdiction to another court
Making an appeal will take a long time, It depends if
the case is severe
