Whats been happening?

We completed our summative assessments last week. The children
demonstrated their understanding of the central idea in their work and
by answering the teacher questions. This week we will be back to our
on-going unit of inquiry exploring stories. We will focus on main
elements of a story, such as characters, setting, beginning and
ending. The children will have opportunities to role-play familiar and
new stories in small groups using puppets and other props. Role-
playing is fosters the development social and communication skills.

Last week the rest time for the children was discontinued in order for
us to prepare them for Prep level. This gives students time to
complete their morning work if needed. Some students had a quick
nap during this time, while others were engaged in quiet activities like
playing with play-dough, reading or paper crafts. Teachers also had
time to work with some students individually.

It was also our first week of students waiting on the basketball court in
the mornings. Bus supervisors have been instructed to bring K2
students to the basketball court rather than their classrooms. The
students adjusted well to the changes and are enjoying their morning
time outside.

Please note that this week will be the last time for K2 children to
borrow library books, and also the last week of home reading books
as the school needs to do an end of year inventory. Classrooms will
still have their own class library books for reading.

Swimming lessons: We would like our parent volunteers to come to
the classrooms 30 minutes before to help out change the children
(15mins) and walk them to the pool (5-7mins).
Since the K2s have their lesson at the end of the day, we will need
the child to carry both their school bag and swim bag directly to the
pool so we can dismiss the children right after swimming.
